Cultural Program Study Trip - The Renaissance in the Loire Valley

Fascinated by the Loire Valley, its magnificent castles and palaces, delicious wines, works of art, and world heritage? Visit the medieval castle of Angers and see the Tapestry of the Apocalypse, one of the world鈥檚 largest and oldest existing tapestries (circa 1380), a precursor to the great mural paintings of the Renaissance. Visit the Devini猫re, birthplace of Fran莽ois Rabelais (circa 1483), pioneer of the modern novel. Walk through the streets, then dine and taste the excellent wines of neighboring Chinon. Explore the ch芒teaux of Chenonceau and Chambord, two of the most visited palaces in all of France, inspirations for artistic works from Rabelais鈥 Gargantua (1535) to Walt Disney鈥檚 Cinderella (1950). Discover the inventions of Leonardo da Vinci at the Castle Museum of Clos Luce where the artist lived until his death in 1519. Discover the Ch芒teau of Blois, favorite residence of the Medieval and Renaissance kings and queens, sojourn of poets Charles d鈥橭rl茅ans, Fran莽ois Villon, and Pierre de Ronsard, as well as Joan of Arc, Machiavelli, Catherine de Medici and Marie Stuart.
