In Malmö students visit a most impressive housing initiative, BO 01, which has transformed an industrial area into one of Europe’s most impressive sustainable living areas. Students also meet with political representative of the local green party to discuss sustainable urban planning and the challenges of creating sustainable communities. Other topics explored during the trip include transportation, immigration and the green economy through visits and talks with municipal representatives. Växjö, Sweden, a city often labeled as “Europe’s Greenest City,” is situated two hours north of Copenhagen. City municipality officials explain their impressive accomplishments in ecological waste management and bio-energy production. Our trip includes a guided tour of Växjö’s wood burning central heating facility, as well as tours of ecological housing and recreation sites.
